Self - Directed Brief
'Futuristic Bio Surfaces"
This project was completely directed by myself using my own ideas and inspirations as part of my final project of my Surface Pattern and Textiles degree. My inspirations derived from my personal interest and attraction to the natural environment around me. During a research trip to the Natural History Museum in London, I discovered a fascination for the many textures within our environment leading me to focus on biological surfaces and botanical forms to influence my designs.
COLOUR & CUSTOMER
Using research tools like WGSN, Vogue Runway and fashion week styles I curated a vibrant colour palette that consisted of trending hues, showing self expression and confidence within ones fashion. Alongside this, I made sure my target customer was coherent with this palette choosing an audience that wouldn't be afraid to wear the eccentric designs I was planning on designing.
DEGREE EXHIBITION
As part of my submission I had to plan and install my own exhibition space. I brought together final samples and visualisations showcasing my designs and how they would appear on real garments. I chose to separate my collection into 'day and night', using colour, material and visual design to distinguish the two. The aesthetic of my visuals had to be adapted, as well as the garment I chose to visualise on. For example, when I was visualising the day designs I chose beachwear, lightweight skirts and tops, day dresses - then for the night I chose more glamorous clothing items suitable for evening meals, social gatherings, wine & dining and celebrations.
Rolls Royce X Your Vision
"Change Within"
This collection was created in response to a brief given to me by Rolls Royce, designing for the interior of the Phantom motor. I focused on Mindful Luxury, looking at the butterfly as a metaphor for change and transformation, as they symbolise the process of metamorphosis. I took inspiration from the patterns within their wings and also their habitat, staying mindful of my materiality so that my collection was luxurious but sustainable. I looked at three key elements of the car for my designs - the gallery, picnic table and the curtain.
Patternbank
Live Brief Project 2020/21
This collection is a response to a brief given by Patternbank, where I based my collection on their trend 'Monochrome Blow Ups'. I focused on ASOS as my niche, creating patterns that I felt would represent their brand and be suitable for their customer audience.
The New Zeitgeist
I-dott
The term Zeitgeist means the spirit or mood of a particular period of history. However, my brief stated to focus on the new zeitgeist, meaning to focus on the mood of now, therefor I revolved my ideas around how everyday more of our natural life is getting destroyed by urbanisation. Visualising this in a pleasing manner, I also researched into how nature can also take back what is theirs by looking at the disaster of Chernobyl - this towns infrastructure has been taken back over by life due to the lack of human life living there over the years. Using my research, inspiration and design ideas I created a collection fit for interiors, using pattern repeats made by hand and photoshop visualising them on wallpaper samples.
These surrounding images are all samples of screen prints I created, playing with layers, pigments and different binders. I have also included a video, where I show the process of peeling foil off a sample revealing the imagery underneath - I recommend watching with the sound on it's a very satisfying noise:)
